Within Visio there are several data types and you can format data based on several Format codes. Fixed List, Variable List amd Boolean do not have special Format codes. (or do they?) The Formats for the various Data Types are: With a little exploring I came up with the following table of data format codes.Continue reading “Format Codes”

Scale in a Title Block
I was working on creating a blog about Title Blocks, but I got sidetracked on creating a Size Block element for the Title Block. As with most blogs I started with a little research and came across these two blogs from some Visio experts. https://bvisual.net/2017/07/10/the-different-drawing-scale-shapes-in-visio/ http://www.visguy.com/2017/11/19/detect-drawing-units-in-the-shapesheet/ So it seemed obvious that I needed to doContinue reading “Scale in a Title Block”
Is it Metric?
I am working on a blog post about Title Blocks and doing some research on adding a Scale value to a Visio text block and came across an interesting post by the shape miester Visio Guy (AKA Chris) (my usual research method is to review blogs by the Visio MVPs) Detect-drawing-units-in-the-shapesheet In the comments, oneContinue reading “Is it Metric?”
Visio sees the Lite!
I have been waiting for a lite version of Visio since version 3, Before that there was a demo version, so people could give Visio a try. Actually, the reason I have been hooked on Visio since Visio 1 and have been volunteering in the Visio community for the past three decades was that demo.Continue reading “Visio sees the Lite!”
Editing a Visio EE master – Part 2
So, now on to creating the shape… These is just some of the switches that the O.P. was talking about. They all have the same pattern, two contact points, a diagonal line indicating the connection and then a control symbol indicating how the switch is controlled/triggered. The shapes have three common points. A, the hingeContinue reading “Editing a Visio EE master – Part 2”
Visio EllipticalArcTo
The EllipticalArcTo row, is a mystery. So, time to give it a look at, like I did the Ellipse row. So, I need a semicircle to play with, so using a 2″ circle and a 3″ horizontal line, align them on Center and Middle, select them both and from the developer tab use the FragmentContinue reading “Visio EllipticalArcTo”
Editing a Visio EE master
Sorry for the delay. In researching for this article I found I had several versions of the shapes on my machine. This is not surprising because I have been voluntarily supporting Visio since version one. I had done a shape search looking for a shape and ended up with some duplicates, but no indication ofContinue reading “Editing a Visio EE master”
Labels? Are they shapes?
So, is a label a shape? Actually they are both. All shapes have geometries and a text block that have a Height, Width, pinX and a pinY (in the Shape Transform section) AND they have a txtHeight, txtWidth. TxtPinX, TxtPinY (in the Text Transform section). So, the existence and location of the shape and theContinue reading “Labels? Are they shapes?”
Headers and Footers
Some of my friends have told me that some of my recent posts have been very good, but very technical with a limited audience. So, I am switching to common Visio features that may not be properly understood. Anyone who has used Word or some of the other Office products are aware of a conceptContinue reading “Headers and Footers”
Visio has some interesting Characters
The Question Recently, Scott, one my good friends asked me about the Visio Character section. A slightly strange request considering he is one of only a half dozen people world wide who MS, has recognized as a Visio expert. Scott does know I have not had a great year physically and I think he isContinue reading “Visio has some interesting Characters”
