One of the things I love about Visio is that if I shape you wants does not exist, you can create it. Contrary to what some Microsoft departments think, Visio is not a collection of static clip art. The shapes can be smart.
In addition to shapes, you can make your own fill patterns and line patterns. The big secret is that if you want to use black in your fill or line pattern, it can not be black because what every Fill or Line colour the user choses, that will be assigned to the black areas. So, if you need black, use an almost black like 00 00 01.
Visio is known for connected diagrams, but the standard lines are boring. What about a set of foot prints?
